Michael Meng Zhu was born and raised in Shanghai, China and now resides in Marietta, GA. His interest in art developed at an early age, strongly influenced by his uncle, Shiji Zhu, a well known artist and educator in Shanghai. Under his uncle’s tutelage, he studied drawing and oil painting many years before entering into college.
Michael graduated from Shanghai Tongji University with a fine art and design degree in 1982. Upon graduation, he taught fine art and design courses at the Shanghai Jiaotong University for nine years. Michael was invited to teach at Nottingham Trent University as a visiting professor in 1991. He moved to the USA in 1993 to study for his Masters of Fine Arts degree at Savannah College of Art and Design. Upon graduation from SCAD, he worked as a senior designer at an architectural design firm.
Michael is active in his local art community. He is exhibited at several fine art galleries and works with interior designers on commissions for clients. He strives to create paintings that are both beautiful and simple by identifying and emphasizing the key elements and principles of fine art. Michael expresses his feelings through the strokes and colors of his paintbrush. What he seeks is not only the real and unreal but something between the conscious and the unconscious. He strives to make his technique different from other artists.
Michael has works on display at many locations around the world as well as private collections in Asia and the US.
