Gerard Negelspach was born in Salem, Oregon but lived in Philadelphia where he studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts with Julius Bloch, Franklin Watkins, and Morris Blackburn. He traveled to Europe on two Cressons (1949 and 1952).
He exhibited at the Philadelphia Art Alliance (1956), Carl Schurz Memorial (1958), Newman Galleries (1961), and Woodmere Art Gallery (1963).
He received numerous awards and painted mural decorations for the Theatre of San Rafael in Tlazcala, Mexico and provided illustrations for publications of the Society of Friends and American Friends Service of Philadelphia.
